Evening again,

And the work continues. The next Smith-related Record of the Grenada Registers of Records, 1817-1837 (v. R2-Z2) is dated 3 October 1832 and entered 2 November 1832. The Smith highlighted is Richard Oliver Smith. Once again there is no blatant clue as to the possibility of a genealogy or ancestry connection to ggg-grandfather James Smith. This Record is downloaded from Item 8 of the microfilm FHL [1563329].

Know all men by these presents that I Richard Oliver Smith
of Cossington in the County of Somerset in that part of Great Britain and Ireland call
ed England Esquire for and in consideration of the sum of One hundred and fifty one
Pounds Sixteen Shillings Current Money of Grenada to me in hand well and truly
paid and also for divers other valuable considerations me hereunto moving and to the
and that the Slave named Maria a black woman attached of Revolution Hall may by
the enjoyment of her freedom become a useful member of Society Have manumitted
franchised and for ever set free the said Slave named Maria and I the said Rich
ard Oliver Smith Have given and granted and by these presents Do give and grant
unto the said Slave named Maria her full freedom and Manumission To have
and To hold the same unto her the said Maria and to her Issue and Increase
from the day of the date hereof to her own proper use and behoof for ever Subject to no ^service
labour or servitude Right Title claim and demands of Service or Servitude to or from any bene
fir or the Benefit of my Heirs Executors or Admons of any other person whatsoever so that
neither I the said Richard Oliver Smith nor any of my Heirs Executors or Admons or
any person claiming under me shall can or may at any time hereafter have or claim
any Estate Right Title or Interest on or to the said Slave Maria or to her Service or
Servitude or any advantage benefit or involvement whatsoever from her labour but that
from henceforth I the said Richard Oliver Smith my Heirs Executors and Admons
and Assigns shall be therefrom barred and for ever utterly or _____ these presents
In witness whereof I the said Richard Oliver Smith acting herein _____ my Attorney John
Colville Esquire have hereunto set my hand and Seal this third day of October in the year

Baillie and George Henry Ames of the City of Bristol Merchants and Copartners send greeting
Whereas we are mortgages of and hold a lien and security upon Revolution Hall Estate in
the Island of Grenada the property of the within named Richard Oliver Smith And whereas
the said Richard Oliver Smith by his Attorney John Colville Esquire hath received the within
mentioned sum of One hundred and Fifty one pounds sixteen shillings current money for
the within mentioned negreʃs slave Maria and the said John Colville as such attorney
aforesaid that with the said sum of money purchased and placed on the said _____ another
slaves in lieu of the said within named Slave Marie and the direction of the said Richard
Oliver Smith executed the within deed of manumiʃsion who hath requested us the said
James Evan Baillie Hugh Duncan Baillie and George Henry Ames to ratify and confirm
such manumiʃsion and exchange Now therefore know so that we the said James Evan
Baillie Hugh Duncan Baillie and George Henry Ames Have and each of us Hath given and
granted ratified and confirmed and by these present Do and such and every of us Doth give grant
ratify and confirm unto the said within name Maria her full and absolute Manumiʃsion
and freedom as fully and effectually as we by _____ of our said mortgage security have power
title or authority so to do and do for ever quit claim all right lien or claim in or to the said
within named slave Maria In Witness whereof we have hereunto set our hands and seals
this Fifth day of November in the Year of Our Lord One thousand eight hundred and thirty two.
